A Love Spell for Kamala
Madame Vice President! Seeing you take the helm for the Democrat’s presidential bid fills me with tremendous hope. I believe in you. I believe that you are the best person to take the presidency of this country, to lead us forward, towards healing, unity. Thank you, thank you thank you, for being willing to take this on the presidency of our big, crazy, beautiful, horrifying, endlessly complicated country. You’re taking on a landscape fraught with extremism, disinformation, purity politics, and an exhausted populace spun in so many ways they are nauseous and disoriented. May you stay strong and healthy through it, in your body, spirit and mind.
You have many people to please, a whole nation of individuals, with their individual needs and desires, beliefs and theories. Each person a universe. May you use your feminine wisdom to find the golden places of unity. May you find the many bridges, and not be afraid to cross them. May you bring this country together, a little more every day.
May the current of progress be strong enough to support you in being you. May you explode above the institutionalized racism and sexism that would leave such a narrow box of “acceptable” expression for a woman of color. My heart aches for the times you’ve been forced into a corner of frustration. May you be free as the white man you rule beside to be fully expressed, in all your boldness, your courage, your conviction, your wisdom, your goofiness, and your kind caring core. May your voice ring with your truth, even when that causes a stir, even when it makes some people uncomfortable. May we put the burden of that discomfort on them, not you.
And may America grant you the human right to be imperfect and honest! With your personality, your humor, your stories, your sass. May we grant you that grace, and may you grant it to yourself.
You’re a faithful and loyal vice president, but now it’s your turn to take charge. Don’t be afraid to shift narratives. Gaza is heavy on our hearts. Hopefully, you will soon hold the keys to Israel's piggy bank. Lock it up. Lock it tight. Call for Netenyahu to resign. Be the president that ends this war. You understand the meaning and importance of law. Come back to it. Trust it. May you find another way forward with the Middle East, that doesn’t include funding genocide and international war crimes.
You cannot solve everything all at once, and you are up against a hurricane. May you take small, meaningful, tight steps. Bring us with you. Help us understand why it’s the best way. May you continue to go for the core of the issue, even when the optics suck, even when everyone screams for a quick fix. May you heal the break, rather than cut off the leg.
Madame Vice President, you have shown that you are capable of change. That you can listen to your party, to your constituents, and govern from that place. I believe in your ability to become the leader that we need, because I believe in your ability to listen, and do what a politician is supposed to do: represent the interests of the people they govern. May you continue to evolve and blossom, leading by listening.
May you be supported in your effort to keep taking care of us. May you be supported as you continue to endorse legislation that supports our nation’s most vulnerable—calling for environmental & reproductive justice, universal health care, protecting unions, reforming our broken education system so that all Americans are equally armed with the weapon to disarm them all - knowledge, and the ability to think critically. Speaking of knowledge . . . may you take some mushrooms, have a magical journey, and come around on psychedelics, like you’ve been coming around on cannabis.
May democracy hold to support the will of the people, may you be its champion. May you become the next President of the United States of America. And so it is, and so it shall be.
